The Roy Foster Lecture – Celebrating 50 Years of Anglo-Irish Literature

Professor Roy Foster, Professor Margaret Kelleher and Dr Joe Hassett

A fantastic crowd gathered for Professor Augustine Martin’s Memorial Lecture on Thursday evening, 26 April 2018. The inspiring lecture by Professor Roy Foster on the topic of ‘All the House I Have: Yeats and Friendship’ focusing on W.B. Yeats and Friendship was given to a full house at FitzGerald Debating Chamber, UCD Student Centre.

Professor Margaret Kelleher, Chair of UCD’s Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama programme gave introductory remarks and Dr Joe Hassett, UCD alumnus, accomplished lawyer and Yeats scholar responded to the lecture. The event also marked the 50th Anniversary celebration of Anglo-Irish Literature at UCD; a wonderful day for the Martin family, friends and UCD faculty, staff, students and alumni.

The Gus Martin Memorial Postgraduate Scholarship in Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama was established in 2015 and honours the contribution and legacy to Irish literary studies of the late Professor Augustine Martin, Chair of Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama (1979-1995). This scholarship is sponsored by a generous donor and will provide full tuition (international fee) to a graduate of a North American college/university to pursue the UCD MA in Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama, a unique educational and cultural experience that will be invaluable to the scholar’s future life and career.
