Global precision manufacturing company ATA has announced its support for a scholarship programme at University College Dublin . The ATA Réalta Master in Engineering Scholarship will be awarded annually to a student at UCD’s School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering wishing to pursue a Masters in Engineering. In its support for the scholarship, ATA has made a total commitment of €78,000, providing an annual scholarship worth €28,000 each year for the next three years.

The ATA Réalta Master in Engineering Scholarship will be awarded to a UCD Mechanical Engineering student who maintains strong academic grades despite challenging personal or financial circumstances. Awarded at the end of Stage Three (third year), the scholarship will fund the student’s fifth, fee-paying year, as part of the Masters of Engineering Degree programme. The scholarship will cover the scholar’s tuition (EU fees); an allowance to contribute to their living expenses; and an accommodation bursary. Applications are currently being welcomed from current third-year UCD Mechanical Engineering students who fit these criteria and intend to pursue a Masters in Engineering in one of the following areas: Mechanical Engineering; Materials Science and Engineering; and, Engineering with Business (Mechanical).

Announcing the establishment of the scholarship, Managing Director EMEA at ATA,
Denis Hickie
said: “ATA is proud to be establishing the ATA Réalta Master in Engineering Scholarship at UCD’s College of Engineering and Architecture. This scholarship has the potential to provide a life changing opportunity for a student faced with financial challenges on their path to qualification.

“We were particularly keen to include the accommodation bursary and living expenses allowance as part of the scholarship, taking financial pressures off the student and giving them the opportunity to fully commit to their studies without having the pressure of commuting long distances to campus or pursuing part-time work to cover the high cost of scarce accommodation in Dublin.”

Dean of Engineering and College Principal at UCD College of Engineering and
Architecture, Professor Aoife Ahern
, said: “At the end of their third-year, our students decide whether to complete a final fourth year to obtain the Bachelor in Engineering, or to enter our Masters of Engineering Degree Programme pathway, which includes a fifth, fee-paying year. By knowing that a support such as the ATA Réalta Master in Engineering Scholarship is available during the fifth-year, our students who would otherwise be unable to complete the Master in Engineering will have the option to continue their studies and realise their dream of becoming a qualified engineer.

“I want to thank ATA for its generosity. Its support will make a real impact at an individual level while also ensuring greater equality of opportunity for students in the UCD College of Engineering and Architecture, and ultimately, increasing access to and diversity within the industry.”

Professor Kenneth Stanton, Head of UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering said: “The establishment of the ATA Réalta Master in Engineering Scholarship will take the total number of Réalta Scholarships at UCD College of Engineering and Architecture to 21. By prioritising Masters programmes at the School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, ATA has created an exciting opportunity for students in this area. I would encourage all eligible students, with a strong academic background, an accommodation need, and who are uncertain about their ability to fund their fifth, fee- paying year, to make an application.”

Applications for the ATA Réalta Master in Engineering Scholarship  are now closed and successful applicants will be informed in early August 2023. The scholarship will be payable once the student enters the fifth, fee-paying year of their Masters of Engineering programme.
