“Life before coming here was just horrible. When I arrived here, I really felt the value of every blessing we have, even the smallest things like opening a window or having clean water to drink and use.
Facing death every moment wasn’t easy at all. But it also showed me how vulnerable life is and how it can be taken away in just one second. My family encouraged me to go and not look back. They told me the future held good things for me.
UCD’s support, resources and community helped us a lot and gave us the confidence to continue. It’s not only about the money or the degree. This opportunity is a life-changing turning point for all of us. It is a life-opening path; a chance for another life.
I am grateful to be here. I am grateful for every single person that made this possible. One day I will tell my children that I had the chance to live this life because of them.”

“I had been studying computer science before the war started. The war destroyed my university and my house, and I had to flee to Egypt in January 2024. I stayed there for almost 2 years before I arrived in Ireland in November 2025.
